#400 1984 Hostile World

#399 David at Night

#398 Old Folk

Getting Old!

Everyone will tell you getting old is difficult, but the alternative... So I have made my life the subject of   my paintings.
The last three works are #398 Old Folk. Someone is being see through the window of a seniors home. The person looks alone but is in a dining room full of other seniors. If he sits alone is because he wants to sit alone. The colors are from Matisse 'Dance' and Mark Rothko 'Untitled (1970) sold for $40,000,000.00 at Sotheby's in 2014.
#399 David at Night is a very bright orange with blue and black, walking at sunset. I like the black where the artist can put in the colours she wants. I suppose it is to obvious that walking into the dark is symbolic of old age.
#400 1984 Hostile World is obviously a reflection on the past. Seniors do that a lot, remembering both the good and the bad. Watching my children growing up was the good part, and watching my friendships change was sometimes the bad. I tend to take everything so personally. Today I have more confidence so most of the 'Hostile World' has left my life.

"Sunshine"

Moving to the Bergstrom Block

Moving to the Bergstrom Block is still not finished. The clean-up is tedious so I tend to avoid it. But David has hung my paintings on the walls and changes the painting in the window. Again it is with fresh eyes, that my work being noticed. I still don't want to sell my work. The reason has become very clear when I saw the Alberta Foundation of the Arts e museum web site. My drawing, called "Sunshine" has faded beyond recognition. Two other works were lost in a fire, the people were safe.
I watched Mary Pratt on You Tube saying all the art she sells is still hers. Lovely to consider that many of the people who own your work disappear from your life, and companies, like Nova Corp, Standard Bank and people I didn't know, who bought art from Galleries. Where is the art? So let me just say that these paintings are like my children, yes they are grown up but I need them close.
